Growing up in Scottsdale, AZ, was not a happy experience for Sir Queen JET. Neither of her parents was a happy person, and their unhappiness impacted her own. “I’m an empath, so I tend to absorb the emotions of those around me,” the singer explains. “I think that deep down, there was a joy in me yearning to get out, but it was not the right time.”
It wasn’t until Sir Queen JET was 28, living on her own in Hollywood, that she began to understand it was safe to leave the heteronormative world. She now identifies as Trans Femme, a form of non-binary where a person recognizes themselves as one gender but sees themselves as another. “I know I’m male, and I’m happy with my male body, but I feel female,” she says.
She boldly sings about it in her new single, “Male Femininity.” However, she has yet to share her true identity with her parents. “They know about my cross-dressing, but they see it as a form of self-expression tied to my singing career, like a Boy George or Pete Burns. They wouldn’t support my being Trans Femme, so why tell them? They don’t know about my adult film work, either.”
Oh yes, Sir Queen JET is a porn star too. Similar to her relationship with her parents, she hasn’t felt much love from the gay adult film industry either. She believes she knows why but says no one in the industry has had the balls to be honest with her yet. We spoke with Sir Queen JET from her home in Los Angeles.
Your new song, “Male Femininity,” focuses on your gender journey.
Sir Queen JET: “Male Femininity” is a song about no longer caring whether people love or hate who you are. My whole life, I have been told that I can not be feminine because of my appearance, and so I have tried to act and dress masculine in order to please and be accepted by others. I was never accepted when I acted that way, and it was unnatural for me because I am invariably feminine. I finally stopped trying to please people and am now simply myself: feminine in a masculine body.
So, you are fully embracing both your masculine and feminine sides?
Sir Queen JET: Yes, I am. It’s funny. When I was a child, I hated being a boy. I wanted to wear pretty dresses and ribbons in my hair. As a teenager, I shaved off my body hair and refused to talk when my voice changed. When I was twenty, though, there was a shift. I started working out as a form of stress relief, and when my muscles started growing, I began to like my body again. I started singing lessons, and that’s where I learned to accept my male voice. About ten years later, I discovered I could wear lingerie, heels, and dresses and feel pretty and strong at the same time, so I embraced that inner child who wanted to feel feminine again. I’ve reached the point today where I accept all parts of myself. (Laughing) I think it is because of all my trials and errors.
Did you ever consider losing the bulk?
Sir Queen JET: No, I actually wanted to keep gaining because the bigger my chest and legs got, the smaller my waist would look, and the hourglass figure made me feel more connected to my feminine side like I was a pin-up girl. It is strange how something society had labeled as masculine actually encouraged me to connect with my feminine side.
Are your muscles some form of armor?
Sir Queen JET: I don’t think so because that would imply that I am using my appearance as a form of defense to protect people from seeing the real me. My muscles are my blessings. They are the things that make me feel good and make me want to keep on living my best life. I often alter the top part of my dress to expose my chest because that is how I prefer to wear them.
Did you design the gowns featured in the “Male Femininity” music video?
Sir Queen JET: The black look was my idea. It’s a mix of pieces that I have collected over the years: skull jewelry, a tulle skirt, and a leather corset. The blue dress was a complete dress I had purchased several years ago, and I had the top part altered. The necklace was a gift from a friend, and the earrings and bracelets were from my “Empowered Bottom” music video. I wore them as a nod to my sexual side.
Empowered Bottom is your 2020 album where you sing about your experience in the gay porn industry.
Sir Queen JET: Yes, all the songs are stories about my struggles with being accepted for who I am while still having the confidence to be that person in the face of rejection.
How did you get into adult film?
Sir Queen JET: For many years, I had poured every ounce of money I could get my hands on into my music career. With very little success, it left me with a mound of debt, as well as several years of not being able to afford to make music. I needed to get my finances in check. I had already been an erotic model for over a decade, so I did not think transitioning into porn would affect much of what I was already doing. I hired an agent, and he was able to get me started. I enjoyed it very much, so I continued to pursue it.
What genre of films do you specialize in?
Sir Queen JET: Any and everything. My agent would submit me to any studio he had contacts with, and I fully accepted any scenes I could book. I never got any offers to do muscle worship, which I think I would have liked. There was one kink website that had considered hiring me, but after being interviewed, they told my agent I was not kinky enough for their site.
What were some of your favorite films?
Sir Queen JET: My one scene with MEN where I was paired with Arad Winwin is a favorite. I also did a great spanking scene for Peter Fever with Max Konnor. And my scene with Dallas Steele for Pantheon Men! Those three studios were the best to work with!
What do you think attributed to your success in gay adult films?
Sir Queen JET: I’m physically stunning. Wherever I go, people cannot help but stare at me. My perfect body and facial features are what many viewers enjoy seeing in gay porn. I may not have been too popular with the studios and directors, but nobody can deny that all eyes have always been on me with much intrigue.
Why do you believe you were not popular with studios and directors?
Sir Queen JET: I cannot say for sure because no one has ever been honest with me. I had been rejected from and practically blacklisted from the gay porn industry several years before I publicly changed my pronouns, so I’m not sure that’s it. Truthfully, I believe the gay porn industry in America favors unattractive, average-looking guys.
Are perfect-looking Adonis people out of vogue?
Sir Queen JET: It appears so. I think it’s the fault of studios hiring directors who don’t like beautiful men. They prefer actors that look like everyone else, like men you see on the street. And it means people who put effort into their appearance, the people who audiences really want to see, get overlooked. It’s sad, it’s odd, but it’s been going on for several years. I feel bad for the people spending their money to watch subpar models have sex, but I am powerless in the industry to stop it.
Is the world ready for a Trans Femme person in gay porn?
Sir Queen JET: There is room for straight performers who pretend to have gay sex in gay pornography, so yes, I believe there is room for people like me to perform because I can act as masculine as a director desires. All of gay porn is acting. The sex is not real; it is an acting job, which anyone of any background is capable of doing.
